It started in a basement in Calgary, when a friend showed Mitch Vavra how to work a set of turntables. From that moment, he was hooked and began DJing and later studied music production and audio-engineering at Pyramind, The Institute for Advanced Digital Audio Training. Since then, performing as Mixol, Vavra has spun across Canada and the States, taking joy in seeing people have a good time. A fan of house in numerous forms as well as Nu-Disco and Minimal Techno, Mixol joined the BELLOSOUND team in 2016, programming the sound and feel at events for clients as diverse as Hugo Boss and Ford. Inspired by artists such as Massive Attack, Kygo, Claude VonStroke, and Daft Punk, Mixol cites seeing Swedish House Mafia with 70,000 people in Los Angeles as a defining DJ moment.
Favorite BELLOSOUND moment?
“My favourite moment was DJing the TD Roadshow. That event was the first large scale corporate event I had done that took the use of a DJ to the next level and really put me in the spotlight. I was responsible for bringing the energy and hyping up the crowd but the energy we created and felt together in that room was beyond words. I brought my ‘A-Game’ and the end result was truly exhilarating!”
